Prepping for Christmas

After thanksgiving we decorated for Christmas. It was a lot of fun. The only thing missing was the snow! But we'll be alright without it. The kids are getting really excited.

Thanksgiving in Africa

Despite being in South Africa, we still had an excellent Thanksgiving. Definitely a memorable one. We were about 20 or more. We had several friends over, mostly South Africans who were nice enough to take time of work to enjoy the day with us. Becky of course worked hard in the kitchen and I did what I could to help. We ate well and played hard, including kick ball and football.

Tufa Waterfall

While in Blyde River Canyon we hiked to this waterfall and found a cave that took us behind it.

Bafanabafana vs USA

Last Saturday we went to the Bafanabafana USA soccer game in Johannesburg. US won 1-0. It was a good game and Bafanabafana played well. We blew our vuvuzelas and chicken and pap (dense cornmeal). Sitting next to me is my friend Shawn.

Blyde River Canyon

Our last trip was to Blyde River Canyon, the third largest canyon in the world next to the Grand Canyon and Fish River Canyon in Namibia. It is in Mpumalanga Province. This is a picture we took from the Blyde River Dam of the Three Rondavels, the three dome shaped peaks. A rondavel is the name of the traditional homes normally built in South Africa
